Clear Cache and Cookies

What are Cache and Cookies

Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (i.e., stores) it. Thus, the browser doesn't have to newly retrieve files (including any images on the page) from the remote website each time you click the Back or Forward buttons. You should periodically clear the cache to allow your browser to function more efficiently.

A cookie is a file created by a web browser, at the request of a website that is stored on the computer. These files typically store user-specific information such as selections in a form, shopping cart contents, or authentication data. Browsers will normally clear cookies that reach a certain age, but clearing them manually may solve problems with websites or your browser.

Browser History is a log of sites that you visit. When you press a browser's Back button, you are moving back one entry the history log. Browsers will normally clear history at regular intervals, but you may want to clear it manually for privacy reasons.

Computer Equipment - Care & Cleaning

Routine computer Maintenance

The following information about preventive maintenance will help you keep your computer running smoothly. You can also find tips in the User Guide that came with your equipment.
Care of computer equipment

  • Keep the computer on a sturdy, flat surface in a clean, dry environment.
  • Do not place items on top of the monitor, or cover any of the computer or monitor vents. The vents let air flow over the equipment and keep it from overheating.
  • Keep food and drinks away from the computer. Spills and food particles can ruin the mouse, keyboard, and other equipment. Moisture on the power switches or other controls may damage the parts and create an electrical hazard.
  • Always disconnect power cords by grasping the plug, not the cord.

Periodic Cleaning

WARNING: Always turn off the computer, monitor and any other electrical equipment connected to it before cleaning.

It is a good practice to periodically clean the equipment to ensure trouble-free operation.
Computer and Keyboard

To clean the painted surfaces of the computer, use only a mild cleaning solution and a slightly damp cloth.
Monitor Screen

Do not use any abrasive cleansers on the monitor screen, as the surface is easily scratched. Avoid touching the screen with an eraser or the point of a pen or pencil. When cleaning the screen, first wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth, or blow on it to remove grit and loose particles, and then use a soft cloth moistened with a nonabrasive liquid glass cleaner. In addition, you can use an anti-static cleaner to slow the buildup of dust.
Mouse

Use a lightly dampened microfiber cloth to wipe away grime or dirt. Be careful not to get moisture into any openings. Using a dry microfiber cloth, remove any remaining moisture from your mouse.
